I can shed a little light. As it may make some great 'Get in the Van' and cruise music.....it's inception to reality was slightly different. 'Get in the Van' is the name of a book about Henry Rollins. I'm not sure if it's an autobiography, but it tells of Henry's roots, and beginnings with Black Flag, with many stories and photos throughout the career of Black Flag. Brendan can often be heard saying that 'this song is a true story'. Before knowing where the title came from, I asked him what the song was about. He gave me that dumb, quizzacle look, and replies, "it's an instumental, duh." I'm thinking, yeah, no shit. That doesn't mean the song can't be symbolic of anything. Whether they wrote it with Henry Rollins in mind, or just used the title......who knows. Author: Sheriff CC Ridah
The book "Get In The Van" is Henry Rollins' autobiographical account of his days with Black Flag. It's mostly made up of photos and Rollins' journal entries. I'm pretty sure the band did not have Rollins in mind when writing the song. I think it was the kind of thing where I was reading the book, I left it on the table, they needed a song titile, wha-lah. Good song, good book. Author: Commander in Chief, Coal
